Wishlist emails: price-drop, restock and reminder emails that bring shoppers back
A saved product is a shopper telling you exactly what they want and that they are not ready yet. Most stores collect that information and never use it. Wishlist emails are how you use it: one message, sent when something about that product has changed.
The four wishlist emails
1. Price drop
The saved product got cheaper. This is the most natural email a store can send, because the reason to open it is the reason the shopper hesitated in the first place. Send it when the price falls below what it was when they saved it, and do not repeat it for the same product inside two weeks.
2. Back in stock
The product was sold out when they saved it, or they tapped Notify me. Send one email when it returns. More detail in the back-in-stock guide.
3. Saved-item reminder
Nothing has changed, but a few days have passed. A short "still thinking about it?" email with every waiting product in one message. Send it once per product, ever. A reminder that keeps coming back is the fastest way to earn an unsubscribe.
4. Low stock
The saved product is nearly gone. This one only works if it is true, so set a real threshold and skip products where you do not track inventory.
Reaching guests
Most saves come from visitors who are not logged in, and you cannot email someone whose address you do not have. The fix is small: right after a guest saves a product, offer to tell them if the price drops, and ask for an email address once. Do not ask again if they close it.
Adding a discount
A reminder with a small, time-limited offer converts better than one without, but a public code leaks. Use a code that is unique to that email, valid only for the products in it, and expires after a few days. The button in the email should apply it automatically so the shopper never has to type anything.
Setting it up on Shopify
In ZS Wishlist & Notify Me, all of this is on the Reminders screen:
- Switch on Email reminders and choose which kinds to send. Price drop, back in stock and saved-item reminders are on the Starter plan; low stock is on Professional.
- Design the email with the block editor, or paste your own HTML.
- Optionally switch on discount codes and set how many days they last.
- Send yourself a test to get the real email in your own inbox before any shopper does.
The app checks every saved product once a day and sends what applies. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and shoppers who use it are never emailed again.
Already using Klaviyo?
You can keep sending from Klaviyo instead. On the Professional plan the app pushes wishlist activity to Klaviyo as events, including Added to Wishlist, Wishlist Price Drop and Wishlist Back in Stock, and you build the flows there. See the Klaviyo section of the documentation.
How to tell if it is working
Open rate is not the number that matters. Look at how many saved products are later bought. On the Professional plan the Analytics screen shows saved-then-purchased products and the revenue from them.
